POSITION SUMMARY
The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


  • Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
  • Plans machining by analyzing work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Able to enter instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Must have knowledge of and able to set up the following: tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, punching, and cutting, including operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains stability among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Understand units of measure, general mathematical equations
  • Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
  • Other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred


    OTHER SKILLS
    Strong functional and technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping required. Specific vision abilities are required. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Climbing is required up to 4 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
