BWXT is currently seeking a Systems Safety Engineer for its
Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!
BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT's
innovation hub. BWXT's Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches,
designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear
rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for
both internal and external customers.
BWXT is seeking an experienced Systems Safety Engineer to assist
with our space programs. This position will work closely with
project technical leads, functional management, customers, and the
Ranges to perform Systems Safety processes, analyses, and
reporting.

Job Description / Duties:
Define safety requirements for space projects.
Develop and maintain project Systems Safety Program Plan(s).
Perform safety analyses to identify potential hazards, mitigations,
and risk, such as FTA, FMECA, PRA.
Generate or provide input into various reports such as Hazards
Analysis Reports and/or Safety Analysis Reports.
Establish and maintain a Hazard Tracking System throughout system
lifecycle.
Develop or assist customer in developing Radiological Contingency
Plans (RCP).
Develop Risk Informed Safety Case that system is adequately
safe.
Support customer deliverables and reviews.
Support solicitation of final launch authorization or
licensing.
Interface with regulatory and government entities such as NRC, DOE,
Range Safety, EPA, Space Force, NASA.
Review nonconformances, deviations and/or waivers for impacts to
system safety.
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
An ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering
discipline is required.
Must possess at least seven (7) years of relevant experience.
Must be proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated previous experience performing Fault Tree Analyses and
Failure Modes and Effects Analyses is required.
Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever
is required.
Additional Desired Skillsets:
Previous experience in a Launch Vehicle or Spacecraft development
or production program.
Previous experience with space nuclear programs.
Previous experience performing Systems Engineering or Reliability
Engineering tasks.
In-depth knowledge and command of related regulatory and
requirements documents such as NASA-STD 8719.24, MIL-STD-882,
NSPM-20, NPR 8715.26, AFSPCMAN91-710, DAFMAN91-110.
