The Advanced Technologies -(AT) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related systems for internal and external customers. AT -is seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to assist in the development of these systems. Job Description/Duties:

• Technical lead researcher of contracts and internal development working with the additive manufacturing of metals for nuclear products. Experiment intensive, hands-on environment. -
• Define/Design experiments for different metals and additive manufacturing technologies such as electron beam and laser systems.
• Identify critical activities, conduct microstructural characterization and analyses using SEM, TEM, EDS, EBSD, XRD, XPS. Interpret mechanical and nuclear testing results. Job Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science is required. -
  • Nuclear engineering education or background is strongly preferred. -
  • A minimum of six (6) years of -experience is required.
  • Experience with neutronic or thermal-hydraulic code and applications, reactor core subsystems, fuel and cladding is a plus.
  • Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
