its Lynchburg, VA - Ramsey Place location! The Advanced
Technologies -(AT) group at BWXT designs and develops innovative
new nuclear reactors, medical isotope solutions, and related
systems for internal and external customers. AT -is seeking an
experienced Materials Scientist to assist in the development of
these systems. Job Description/Duties:
- Technical lead researcher of contracts and internal development
working with the additive manufacturing of metals for nuclear
products. Experiment intensive, hands-on environment.
- Define/Design experiments for different metals and additive
manufacturing technologies such as electron beam and laser
systems.
- Identify critical activities, conduct microstructural
characterization and analyses using SEM, TEM, EDS, EBSD, XRD, XPS.
Interpret mechanical and nuclear testing results. Job
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science is required. -
- Nuclear engineering education or background is strongly
preferred. -
- A minimum of six (6) years of -experience is required.
- Experience with neutronic or thermal-hydraulic code and
applications, reactor core subsystems, fuel and cladding is a
plus.
- Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.
- Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever
is required. As a federal government contractor, BWX Technologies,
