The Global Engineering Leader is responsible for managing and
leading multiple global teams of product engineers, drafters and
technicians that provide engineering delivery across orders,
services, product development and sustaining engineering. This role
is accountable for the design and engineering support for the at
least $200M FCD electric actuator business and for the actuation
products of the at least $450M control valves business
The Global Engineering Leader of Actuation Products reports
directly to the FCD Director of Automation and Control Valve
Engineering. This leader must have the ability to cultivate an
innovative, enterprise and global mindset in their organization and
the ability to work seamlessly with FCD sales, product management
and operations. This person will have direct involvement with
customers and end users and will be required to develop strong
customer relationships. The leader must possess proven leadership
capability and a strong technical background with electric and
fluid actuation, industrial automation, digital control, and
communication protocols including IOT, as well as experience in the
actuation of 3rd party valve and other products. The leader is
responsible to retain and attract top talent, support training and
development of engineers, and manage the performance of the
actuation products engineering teams globally.
The Global Engineering Leader of Actuation Products can be based
out of the following Flowserve sites - Lynchburg, VA, Springville,
UT, Raleigh, NC, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX or Bethlehem, PA.
**Responsibilities & Requirements:**
Work with sales and product management to set direction and
strategy for the actuation team. Establish, lead and direct the
product development plans for the technical teams.
Support product initiative projects for new technologies and
products and manage improvements to existing products.
Lead and manage the team of actuation products engineering
leaders and provide direction for their engineering and operational
needs and requirements.
Manage and drive continual improvement of the actuation products
engineering teams. Monitor key performance indicators and establish
action plans to maintain or improve performance and be a part of a
global team. Optimize engineering capacity by running the RCCP
process for the full actuation products engineering team. Work with
the central Global Engineering teams as needed to drive global
Flowserve goals inside the engineering teams.
Utilizes experience and knowledge of automation, actuation, and
controls to manage the timely execution of development initiatives
for major Flowserve actuation brands such as Limitorque, Valtek,
Automax, Accord, NAF, Worcester and Norbro.
Oversee the development and training of engineers/drafters and
technicians to establish Flowserve as a developer of industry
Globally support the machine shop, production, supply chain, and
assembly and test benches in the operations.
Make effective use of capacity planning tools (RCCP and
Engineering OTD) and business forecasts to identify and address
current and anticipated gaps in engineering capacity for all
projects. Balance the efforts to optimize the usage of low-cost
engineering resources as appropriate to augment engineering
Continually develop and implement improvements within the team
to improve operational performance aligned with corporate
objectives and customer requirements. Improve working processes,
procedures, and define possible areas for standardization and the
appropriate usage of low-cost engineering resources to improve
productivity of the engineering organization.
Participate in improvement project activities such as Lean
manufacturing, lean practitioner etc.; to continually improve the
operational performance for the actuation products teams.
Ensure products are safe and compliant with appropriate industry
requirements (e.g. FM, CSA, ATEX, PED, API, Machinery Directive,
etc.). Ensure proper due diligence in processes and documentation
to support that compliance.
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree plus 15+ years of
track record in delivering and sustaining products in some of the
following areas - electric actuation, pneumatic actuation, fluid
power actuation, electric drives, automation and control systems,
and mechatronics systems
Ability to produce professional engineering reports and
presentations. They must also be able to deliver these
presentations to management teams, industry committees, employees,
Excellent time management and organization skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be
Fluent in English verbally as well as in written communication.
Other language skills are beneficial.
Ability to travel globally approximately 30-40% of the time.
**Preferred Experience / Skills:** Track record of at least 10
years of managing people, and at least 5 years of managing global
teams in matrix organizations.
Demonstrated understanding of automation stack, such as
Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Asset Management System (AMS),
Plant Asset Management (PAM), Safety Instrumented System (SIS),
Safety Integrity Level (SIL); significant understanding of
Foundation Fieldbus, HART, Modbus, and Profibus is a plus.
Track record in development and deployment of technology in
products that delight customers and end users; ability to create
strong Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio to drive
Ability to manage and lead teams in an Agile way allowing fast
adjustment to new market direction.
Must be self-starting and have motivational skills and a high
sense of urgency to drive and execute production and development
Interpersonal skills are critical for optimum communication with
internal and external customers including the Flowserve management
team and employees.
