An exciting contract opportunity is available for a Stepdown RN with critical care expertise, specializing in cardiac and multisystem patient management. This role involves delivering high-quality nursing care on a 21-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown unit caring for patients with cardiac, vascular, surgical, renal, respiratory, and sepsis conditions. Location: Richmond, VA - a vibrant city with rich history, diverse culture, and plenty of recreational activities. Position Details: Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend and major holidays required Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3-4, adaptable based on unit needs Uniform: Navy blue/white scrubs, maintaining a professional appearance Contract role with no local candidates accepted (must live outside a 50-mile radius) EKG exam required at orientation (study guide provided) Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans Administer medications safely and manage complex therapies including cardiac drips and insulin drips Monitor bedside cardiac functions and manage stable tracheostomies and BiPAP support Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and act as patient advocate Provide education to patients and families to support informed decision-making Maintain compliance with hospital policies and nursing practice standards Respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions maintaining patient safety Qualifications and Desired Experience: Current RN licensure (state of practice or compact) BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required prior to direct patient care Minimum 1 year RN experience; acute care and PCU/stepdown experience preferred Proficient in lab draws and IV starts, critical care skills including managing pressors Experience with EPIC EHR and critical care courses advantageous Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to adapt in high-stress environments This role suits nurses committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to a diverse and critically ill patient population.
