Job Description:
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), both full-time and
hourly positions available, scheduled days and shifts
negotiableLocation: position based in Lynchburg, VA 24501Position
Summary:The Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides medical, diagnostic
and treatment services for a child or Adult consumer population in
collaboration with agency psychiatrists. Work is performed under
general supervision and is guided by policies and procedures,
quality assurance, public and private payor guidelines, diagnostic
guidelines and professional practices and including ethical
standards related to client interactions, state and federal
licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines.Required
Education and Experience: Master of Science degree from an
accredited college/university in Nursing/PMHNP, and licensure as a
Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with
minimum education as determined and required by the relevant
licensing board. Current DEA registration. One year of relevant
experience as a Nurse Practitioner, providing psychiatric care to
children with a mental health diagnosis.Related Knowledge Skills
and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards,
practices and techniques related to Psychiatry and nursing;
Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and precautions to be
taken in the administration of psychotropic medication; Thorough
knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to
individual therapy, counseling practices and risk assessment for
the mentally ill; Thorough knowledge of individual management
guidelines for Virginia; thorough knowledge of the laws and legal
procedures relating to hospital admission; Thorough knowledge of
community resources hospitalization options, treatment providers
and other agencies in service to the mentally ill
population.Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's
license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite;
transport clients, provide services to client at other locations.
Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require
travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Ability to participate in and
successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both
verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be
