BWXT is currently seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer for
its Lynchburg, VA location!
Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) engineers ensure plant operations
comply with NRC requirements in order to prevent a criticality
accident.
Job Description/Duties:
Performs NCS analyses to define the safety basis for SNM
operations.
Advises production personnel on the impact of process changes and
facility modifications.
Executes computer models to evaluate normal operations and process
upsets with regards to NRC License limits.
Determines limits and controls to maintain operations critically
safe.
Evaluates accident sequences and identifies Items Relied On For
Safety to ensure a criticality is highly unlikely.
Approves operating and maintenance procedures important to the
safety of operations.
Participates in audits and inspections, investigations of unusual
incidents, and design reviews.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
Preference given to candidates with Nuclear Engineering or Physical
Science focus. Internal candidates with a Physics Degree who are
already on the Engineering Ladder are also eligible.
Must possess at least four (4) years of related experience.
Previous NCS experience preferred, especially in an NRC licensed
fuel cycle facility.
Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 70 is a plus.
Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and
interpersonal communication skills.
Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to
detail.
Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy
(DOE) clearance.
