No Contact Contact Phone Ext Contact Email Job Summary/Basic Function Career Coaching is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals and groups to accomplish education and career goals. This position serves all level students and alumni as directed through assessing, developing goals, planning, implementing, and evaluating Career and Professional Development initiatives. Additional responsibilities include developing relationships with academic departments; developing and implementing programs and resources that support career and professional development, and working with the Career Center Employer Relations team to establish a communication line between students and alumni serviced and employers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Students and Alumni: Coach students and alumni as directed to provide a wide range of career coaching services:* Serve all students/alumni in assigned schools and academic majors, and become an expert in associated industries, professions, and related career fields; collaborate and build positive working relationships with deans, faculty, and staff* Think critically and creatively, use knowledge, facts, and data to effectively strategize multiple career options and plans* Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply good judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature* Provide one-on-one, group, and telecoaching sessions via personal communication and technology devices such as a phone, personal computer, or tablet* Evaluate students using interviews, coaching sessions, career assessments, and assist students to understand their strengths, values, interests, and characteristics in order to develop academic and career options* Monitor, track, and report student interactions, services provided, and student needs using LU recommended tools* Recommend career assessment tools to students/alumni that are available through the Career Center or other LU department, and provide interpretation of those assessments* Teach career research and decision making skills* Research job/internship opportunities* Encourage the pursuit of experiential learning opportunities* Write high quality professional resumes, CVs and cover letters* Critique resumes, CVs and cover letters* Coach students/alumni networking skills, interviewing skills, and organize and participate in mock interviews* Strong organizational, scheduling, and planning skills Communication and Comprehension* Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information* Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner* Possess excellent communication skills that professionally represent Liberty University and the Career Center to all skate holders, which can include a variety of businesses, ministries, governmental departments, and the community at large Additional Career Center Support and Responsibilities:* Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to aid students in making and carrying out vocational and educational goals and objectives* Present engaging workshops/presentations/information sessions via in-person, audiovisual presentations for parents, faculty, staff, and community organizations* Provide informational resources on all career skills/knowledge/topics* Collaborate with other LU departments to promote career services and development as directed* Cross-promote related events to other schools and departments* Coordinate and participate in career fairs and similar activities and assist individuals in educational development options* Mentor and train student workers and Tier I Career Coaches as directed* Provide career coaching to other schools or majors* Accept training and suggestions for performance improvement from Tier III Career Coaches, and other supervisors* Create and maintain a Professional LinkedIn profile as taught by the LU Career Center supervisors and or leadership* Agree to the use of personal photo and video in the regular course of any career coaching activities, Career Center events, and any other promotional activities Minimum Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in communications and digital content, or related field, or a discipline related to career development, coaching, counseling, student development, or related field with 5+ years of experience. Required Skills:* Proven expertise in related areas of communications and digital content* Proven expertise in coaching/counseling communications* Knowledge of coaching/counseling and career development theory, practice and use of current technology for coaching and career development* Broad knowledge of career opportunities with emphasis on current trends in career development and employment resources and opportunities* Must demonstrate proficiency in using career assessment instruments* Working knowledge of career services management software e.g., Focus 2, Career Direct with the ability to assess/interpret and report outcomes* Excellent interpersonal skills including a collaborative and team oriented work style and the ability to multi-task and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment* Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, eager to learn and follow, as well as lead and mentor others* Proactive, anticipates needs, and can work independently to complete goals with minimal supervision* Accept supervision, direction, training, coaching, and receiving feedback* Ability to work with a diverse group including students, alumni, staff, faculty, off campus employers, and parents.* Exceptional written and oral communication skills including public speaking, designing and delivering presentations, and excellent Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills* Experience in editing and proofing resumes, essays, letters, etc. related to job or graduate school applications Physical and Sensory Abilities:* Routinely required to travel to local campus locations* Occasionally required to travel locally, regional, and nationally for professional development, and or in process of performing job tasks and duties* Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard* Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally* Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building* Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business* Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds Preferred Qualifications* Master's degree preferred in communications and digital content, or related field, or a discipline related to career development, coaching, counseling, student development, higher education, or related field with 2+ years of experience. Experience working with diverse populations. Work Hours Monday through Friday - 8 am to 5 pm with the occasional evening
